The town of Skodje has had a rapid growth in population over the last years and as of Januar 1st, 2009, the number of inhabitants totalled 3,900. Skodje has a relatively young population. 60% of the population is under the age of 40 and more than half live in the town center. The remaining population lives in close proximity to the town center.
The municipality has a rich and varied cultural life, including several sports clubs, choirs, brass band etc. The main sources of income come from industry, fish farming and forestry. Skodje has three industrial parks which all have available capacity.
Skodje is situated such that it has the shortest distance to most other communities in the county including Ålesund and Ålesund airport, Vigra. In addition the main road E39 passes straight through the community. The central location of Skodje makes it an attractive site to live in as you are near both nature as well as the city. It is only a short distance to drive from Skodje to neighbouring communites with numerous further employment opportunities.
The centre of Skodje is surrounded by a spectacular landscape of fjords and mountains, although there are rules on how to respect the environment. Here you will experience excellent conditions for fishing as well as other outdoor activities year round. You can find wide forests, idylic mountain farms, old forest roads and peaks with wide vistas. The saltwater currents in Dragsundet and beautiful old bridges at Straumen are highly apreciated by tourists.
